Women’s Tennis to Host James Madison, Villanova and Towson this Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
The Navy women’s tennis team (4-3, 0-1 PL) will host three matches at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex this weekend. Navy will host James Madison (3-0) on Friday at 2 PM, Villanova (1-0) on Sunday at 10 AM and Towson (1-1) on Sunday at 2 PM. Admission is free for all Navy women’s tennis matches.
Navy went 2-1 this past weekend, defeating George Washington, 4-3, and Mount St. Mary’s, 6-1, before falling at Boston University, 5-2, in its Patriot League opener.
Senior Carlee Conway clinched the win against George Washington with a three-set win at No. 4 singles. Conway is a team-best 11-5 in singles play this year.
Senior Amanda Keller (10-9), sophomore Emily Louie-Meadors (10-5) and sophomore Aimee Dervishian (10-2) each have 10 singles wins this season.
Keller and sophomore Kaylah Hodge are a team-best 12-4 in doubles play this season, while Louie-Meadors and senior Claudia Mackenzie are 10-3 in doubles action.
Keller recently moved into second place at Navy in career combined singles and doubles wins with 137. She is 14 combined wins behind Erin Snook ’14 for the school record. Keller is currently tied for second at Navy in career singles wins with Darien Sears ’14 with 78 and she is also tied for second in career doubles wins with Emani Decquir ’13 with 59. Keller is two doubles wins away from tying Snook for the Navy program record of 61.
James Madison leads the all-time series against Navy, 4-1. Navy’s lone win in the series came in 2013. The Dukes have won the last four meetings, including a 6-1 decision in 2017.
James Madison finished the 2017 spring season ranked ninth in the ITA Atlantic Regional Rankings.
The Dukes have defeated Saint Francis U (7-0), West Virginia (6-1) and Penn State (6-1) in their three matches this spring.
Navy is 6-0 all-time against Villanova. The Mids have defeated the Wildcats in six straight seasons, including a 6-1 win last year.
Villanova defeated Colgate, 6-1, in its lone dual match this spring. The Wildcats will play at Patriot League-member Lehigh on Saturday before facing Navy on Sunday.
Navy is 7-0 against Towson in the all-time series. The Mids posted a 6-1 win at Towson last season.
Towson has lost to Penn State, 4-3, and defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 7-0, in its two matches this spring.
After its three matches this weekend, Navy will next host Johns Hopkins on Sunday, Feb. 18.
