Women's Tennis to Host George Mason and Howard in Sunday Doubleheader
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women’s tennis team (7-4, 0-1 PL) will host George Mason (2-4) and Howard (1-4) in a doubleheader on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center inside the Brigade Sports Complex. The Mids will host the Patriots at 10:00 AM and the Bison at 2:00 PM.
Navy has won its last three matches by a combined team score of 19-2. The Mids have defeated Villanova, 5-2, Towson, 7-0, and Johns Hopkins, 7-0, in their last three contests.
Navy’s most recent match was its 7-0 win over Johns Hopkins last Sunday. Navy used 12 different players in the match as six Mids played singles and six different Mids made up the three doubles teams.
Keller is one doubles win away from becoming Navy’s all-time leader in career doubles victories. The team captain is currently tied with 2014 graduate Erin Snook with 61 career doubles wins. Keller’s career record is 61-29 and she is 14-4 this season with doubles partner Kaylah Hodge.
Keller and Hodge lead the team in doubles wins this season, while senior Claudia Mackenzie and Louie-Meadors are second with their 12-3 record.
George Mason is currently 2-4 this season. The Patriots have wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Mary Washington. George Mason most recently fell to No. 23 Virginia on Tuesday, 4-0.
George Mason will face Radford on Friday evening before playing at Navy on Sunday.
Navy is 7-0 all-time against George Mason and the two schools have met every year since 2011. Navy posted a 7-0 win over the Patriots last season.
Howard is currently 1-4 on the season and most recently fell to VCU on Thursday, 7-0. Howard’s lone win this season was a 4-3 decision over Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 9.
Howard’s No. 1 singles player, Nathalie Finch, received both the MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week awards on Feb. 14. Additionally, Nicole Hutchison was named the MEAC Player of the Week and Yassmine Khiri was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week on Feb. 7.
Navy is 4-2 all-time against Howard and the Mids have won each of the last two meetings in the series. Navy defeated Howard last season, 7-0.
Following Sunday’s doubleheader, Navy will continue its homestand with three matches next weekend. Navy will face Delaware and Morgan State on Saturday, March 3, and Richmond on Sunday, March 4.
