ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team will host Morgan State on Saturday and Towson on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex. Action gets underway at 5:00 pm on both days.
The team enters the weekend with a 3-2 record, having dropped its last two matches to Howard (7-0) and Seton Hall (4-3). Navy head coach Keith Puryear, however, thinks the losses will only help the team in the long run.
"I am confident that we will learn what is needed to do to come through in these types of matches," said Puryear following the Seton Hall loss. "We will learn from our mistakes and become a better team because of it."
Navy has posted a stellar 20-10 record in singles play during the spring, with every one of the six spots having a winning record so far. Leading the way is junior Brittney Boucher and freshman Stefanie Ton at Nos. 2 and 3, both with 4-1 records. Both of their losses in dual play came against Howard, with Ton's coming in a three-set decision. The lineup will likely feature freshman Emani Decquir at No. 1 (3-2 / 10-5 overall), Boucher, Ton, freshman Dye Das (3-2 / 6-6 overall) at the fourth spot, freshman Natalie Houle (3-2 / 4-8 overall) at No. 5, and sophomore Lindsay Olsen (2-2 / 5-6 overall).
In doubles play, the Mids are a combined 8-7 during the spring, with the tandem of Boucher and Ton owning a 3-2 record. Das and Decquir are 2-2, while senior Julie Dias and Olsen are 1-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Navy played three singles matches (2-1) and two doubles matches (1-1) against Morgan State at the Old Dominion Invitational on Oct. 4. The Mids also played matches against Towson at the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational in Annapolis on Sept. 27, as well as at the Wilson / ITA Atlantic Regional Championship on Oct. 24. The Mids went 5-7 in singles play against the Tigers during the two meets, and were 2-2 in doubles play.
Following this weekend, Navy will host Providence on March 13 at 1:00 pm, before taking Spring Break off, resuming play March 25 vs. Saint Bonaventure.
