The Navy women's tennis team (15-6, 0-0) will open its fifth season of Patriot League play on the road this weekend. The Mids will play at Colgate (5-8, 0-1) on Saturday at 11:00 AM before playing at Bucknell (3-4, 1-0) on Sunday at 12 noon.
Navy is coming off a 6-1 victory over Big East member Providence last Sunday. Navy swept the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches. Senior Erin Snook earned a straight set win at No. 1 singles to extend her program record career win total to 84.
Snook is 13-9 this season, while sophomore Sam Droop (15-10) and senior Darien Sears (15-8) share the team lead of 15 singles wins.
Also with double-digits singles wins are junior Gabby Winter (10-9), sophomore Katie Porter (13-7), freshman Rozel Hernandez (10-4) and freshman Audrey Channell (10-6).
Navy and Colgate will be meeting for the fourth time on Saturday. Colgate was 12-6 overall last season and 2-3 during conference play. Colgate defeated Lehigh, 4-1, in the Patriot League Quarterfinals before falling to Army, 4-0, in the semifinals. Navy is 3-0 all-time against Colgate and the Mids defeated the Raiders by a score of 7-0 in their only meeting last season.
Colgate lost to Army, 7-0, in its Patriot League opener last weekend. The Raiders were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll.
Bucknell was 3-2 in league play last season and 10-12 overall. The Bison defeated Holy Cross in the league quarterfinals, 4-0, before falling to Navy in the semifinals, 4-0. Navy has won six straight matches against Bucknell and holds a 6-2 lead in the overall series.
Bucknell defeated Loyola, 5-2, in its Patriot League opener last weekend. The Bison were voted to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. The Bison will play at Villanova on Saturday before Sunday's match against Navy.
The Mids, who were picked to finish third in the conference preseason poll behind Boston U. and Army, will continue league play next weekend by hosting two matches. Navy will face rival Army on Saturday at 10 AM and Lafayette on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
