Carlson Receives ITA Scholar-Athlete Recognition

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's tennis player Mikaela Carlson has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Carlson recently completed her sophomore season at Navy in 2013-14.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Carlson became the first Navy women's tennis player to be named to the Patriot League Women's Tennis All-Academic Team this past spring. Carlson carries a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as an international relations major and she is ranked first in her class in Academic Order of Merit.
Carlson is a member of the USNA Recycling Team and is a member of the UK International Scholars Program. She has also volunteered for the Special Olympics and the Ronald McDonald House. She has been named to the Superintendent's List and the Commandant's List three times.
Carlson posted a 15-12 record in doubles this past season and was 11-9 in dual play. Carlson was 4-2 in doubles during the Patriot League Regular Season. Carlson was a starter at No. 1 doubles along with junior Noelle Kaufmann.
Carlson also had a singles record of 8-6 and she was 3-0 during the Patriot League Regular Season. Carlson started at No. 5 singles in Navy's two Patriot League Tournament matches.
After two seasons at Navy, Carlson owns a career doubles record of 25-20 and a singles record of 19-13.
