ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy women's tennis head coach Keith Puryear has announced that seven members of the Class of 2016 have participated in induction ceremonies and will join the team this fall. The seven members represent five states as California and Indiana have two members each.

"This is the biggest class we have brought in and we think it will be one of the strongest we have had top to bottom," said Puryear, who owns a 55-17 record in four years at Navy. "They all have had fairly extensive junior experience and come from great areas of the country where they have been battle-tested. They all have the ability to challenge for starting spots and are very athletic and experienced. We are looking forward to them strengthening our lineup."

Puryear has developed a strong base from California as the 2012-13 roster will feature five student-athletes from the Golden State. However, Vivian Chau and Cassandra Fisbeck are Puryear's first recruits from southern California.

"There is just a lot of talent from California. All of our previous recruits from California have been from the northern part of the state, so it's nice to to get into southern California," said Puryear. "I wouldn't say we have a pipeline, but there is just so much talent and the Naval Academy is attractive to Californians because we have a huge presence out there."

Navy went 20-3 last year and reached the finals of the Patriot League Tournament for the second straight year. Navy returns all six starters and seven letterwinners as Puryear lost no members from last year's squad.
