Women’s Tennis to Host the Moore Invitational This Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women’s tennis program will host the seven-team Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational this weekend at the Brigade Sports Complex. Play will begin at 12 noon on Friday and at 9:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament will be played at the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center and at the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium, which are both located at the Brigade Sports Complex (64 Greenbury Point Rd.). Access to the Brigade Sports Complex is open to the public and admission is free for all Navy women’s tennis events.
Navy will be joined at the ninth-annual Moore Invitational this weekend by Binghamton, Fairleigh Dickinson, Lehigh, Monmouth, NJIT and St. Bonaventure.
The Moore Invitational will have four singles flights and two doubles flights.
There will be one reigning individual champion in the field, as Navy sophomore Ansofi Wreder won the “C” singles slight at the Moore Invitational last fall with a 4-0 record.
Navy opened its 2017-18 season at the Stony Brook Invitational last weekend. Navy was 25-19 in singles matches at Stony Brook and 10-8 in doubles matches.
Navy team captain Amanda Keller went 2-1 in the “A” singles flight and 3-1 in the “A” doubles flight with sophomore Kaylah Hodge at Stony Brook last weekend. Keller now has 120 combined singles and doubles wins in her career, which ranks as the fourth-best total at Navy. Keller also ranks third in program history in career singles wins (70) and is fifth in career doubles wins (50).
Senior Claudia Mackenzie ranks ninth in program history in career doubles wins with 46.
Keller recently received a wild card entry to the annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic, which will be contested from Sept. 21-24 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Navy’s next full team event will be the annual Navy Blue & Gold Invitational from Oct. 6-8 at the Brigade Sports Complex.
