ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team will open its fall home season this weekend when it hosts the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis. Action gets underway on Friday at noon and at 9:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday.
Teams competing this weekend include Navy, George Mason, Howard, Loyola (Md.), Manhattan, Monmouth, Nova Southeastern, Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure and Towson. Doubles play will start on Friday and conclude on Saturday, while singles action starts on Saturday and wrap up on Sunday.
Navy had success in its opening weekend of play at the Stony Brook Invite a week ago. The Mids went 20-15 in singles play and 7-5 overall in doubles play. Navy was led by Gabby Winter (So. / Orlando, Fla.), Emani Decquir (Sr. / Sacramento, Calif.), Sam Droop (Fr. / Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Dye Das (Sr. / Cherry Hill, N.J.), all of whom recorded a 3-1 record in singles play. Winter and Droop each reached the finals of their respective singles flights, while Decquir and Das fought back to win the consolation bracket after losing in the first round.
Meanwhile, the tandem of Winter and Logan Antill (Butler, Pa.) reached their flight finals in doubles action, compiling a 4-1 record last weekend.
Decquir is Navy's all-time leader in singles victories, needing one win to become the first Navy player to record 50 career victories. In addition, she needs just six combined wins in singles and doubles play to record 100 career combined victories. Junior Erin Snook (Tampa, Fla.) is one behind Decquir on the career singles wins list with 48.
Navy will be off next weekend before traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Oct. 5-7 for the Wake Forest Invitational.
