Keller to Compete at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's tennis senior Amanda Keller will compete in the 42nd edition of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend at the Town Club in Fox Point, Wisconsin.
Keller will begin play in the main draw of the 32-player singles bracket on Friday morning. The women's singles champion will earn a wild card berth into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Tournament in Indian Wells, Calif. The Milwaukee Tennis Classic is an ITA Gold Level event. Backdraw matches will be held and each player is guaranteed at least two matches.
The women's draw this weekend consists of players from Arkansas, Butler, Drake, Iowa, Louisiana-Monroe, Marquette, Miami (Fla.), Milwaukee, Navy, North Texas, Syracuse, Utah State and Wisconsin.
This is the first time that a Navy women's tennis player has competed at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
Keller will open play against Syracuse's Miranda Ramirez on Friday at 10:00 AM. The winner of that match will advance to the Round of 16 to face the winner of Iowa's Adorabol Huckleby vs. Louisiana-Monroe's Madalina Grigoriu.
Keller has had an outstanding start to her senior season. She recently won the A singles flight and teamed with Kaylah Hodge to win the A doubles flight at Navy's Moore Invitational last weekend. She is 5-1 this season in singles play and 6-1 in doubles.
Keller has competed well in high-level individual tournaments in the past, as she has twice advanced to the Round of 32 in the main draw of the ITA Atlantic Regional Invitational.
Keller, Navy's team captain, ranks third in school history in career singles wins (73), fourth in career doubles wins (53) and fourth in combined singles and doubles wins (126). She is a three-time All-Patriot League honoree.
Navy's full team will be back in action at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational from October 6-8.
