Navy Women's Tennis Travels to Wake Forest Invitational
Oct. 4, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team returns to action this weekend when it heads to Tobacco Road for the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., beginning on Friday and ending on Sunday. The Midshipmen were off last weekend after having success at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational two weeks ago.
Navy is coming off a performance in which it won a pair of flight championships at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational. Sophomore Gabby Winter (Orlando, Fla.) won the B Flight two weeks ago with a victory over teammate and doubles partner Logan Antill (Fr. / Butler, Pa.). The duo then combined to win four doubles matches to claim the B Flight doubles bracket.
As a team, Navy has posted a 53-31 (.631) singles record to date and a 20-11 (.645) doubles mark.
Winter owns an 8-1 record with five wins in a row to lead Navy's attack. The sophomore won her flight at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invite and reached the finals of the Stony Brook Invitational on Sept. 16. All five of her victories at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational came in straight sets and her lone loss on the season was a three-set decision to Fairleigh Dickinson's Nicole Chris in the finals of the Stony Brook Invite. Winter has the best winning percentage of any player in school history (.711) and her 32 wins rank sixth on the career wins list.
Three other players, Antill, Dye Das (Sr. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Emani Decquir (Sr. / Sacramento, Calif.), each own identical 6-2 marks. At the Bill & Sandra Moore Invite, Decquir became the first Navy player in school history with 50 career victories and she now owns a 52-41 career mark. Erin Snook (Jr. / Tampa, Fla.) is next on the career wins list with 49 (49-21 record).
Antill and Winter have teamed for an impressive 8-1 doubles' record with four wins in a row after winning the Bill & Sandra Moore Invite. The duo has eight of Navy's 20 doubles victories this year. Cassandra Fisbeck (Fr. / Granada Hills, Calif.) and Darien Sears (Jr. / Silver Spring, Md.) have teamed for a 4-1 record, falling to Antill and Winter in the finals of the B Flight at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invite.
The Midshipmen will return home next weekend to host the Navy Blue & Gold Invite beginning on Friday.
