ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
The Navy women's tennis program will host its second fall invitational this Friday through Sunday with the fourth annual Navy Blue & Gold Invitational. The tournament will be contested at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium (outdoor) and the Tose Family Tennis Center (indoor) courts at the Brigade Sports Complex.
Play will begin at noon on Friday, 9:00 AM on Saturday and 9:00 AM on Sunday. There will be four singles flights and two doubles flights. The "A" doubles flights and "A" and "B" singles flights will be played at the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium. The "B" doubles flights and the "C" and "D" singles flights will be played at the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center as 12 courts will be used simultaneously, weather permitting.
George Washington, Georgetown, Howard, James Madison, Longwood, Mary Washington, Towson and UMBC will join Navy at the nine-team invitational.
Sophomore Logan Antill (Butler, Pa.) highlighted Navy's performance at last year's Blue & Gold Invite by reaching the finals of the "B" singles flight. Antill won three matches before falling to James Madison's Ruxundra Andriescu in the finals.
Antill's win in the semifinals of the Blue & Gold Invite last year was her 10th of the fall season, which established a new Navy fall record. Antill eventually broke Navy's overall single season wins record by going a combined 25-13 during the fall and spring seasons. She was Navy's starter at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles during dual matches as a plebe last spring.
Navy last competed at its home Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational from September 20-22. Navy won a total of 22 singles matches and eight doubles matches against a competitive field.
Sophomore Katie Porter (Matthews, N.C.) went 2-1 in singles play to advance to the semifinals of the "B" flight and she teamed up with senior Erin Snook (Tampa, Fla.) to go 3-1 in doubles, advancing to the finals of the "A" flight.
Navy will next send its qualified players to the ITA / USTA Atlantic Region Championship beginning Friday, October 18 in Charlottesville, Va. The ITA / USTA Atlantic Region Championship is Navy's final scheduled competition for the fall season. Navy will open the spring dual season on January 18th at home against Saint Francis, Pa.
