March 2, 2013
BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Brigid Byrne earned All-East honors in the 5,000m run to highlight Navy's performance at the ECAC Indoor Championship at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center on Saturday. Navy is tied for 27th place with one team point. Connecticut leads after Saturday with 38.50 points.
"We had a good first day out here and it was highlighted by Brigid earning All-East honors in the 5K," head coach Carla Criste said. "Ffrench also matched her PR in the high jump."
Byrne placed eighth in the 5,000m run to earn ECAC All-East honors with a time of 16:46.75, her personal-best and the second-best time in Academy history. Sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge took ninth in the 5,000m run at 16:49.11. Beveridge's time was her personal best and the third-best time in Academy history.
Senior Kristin Smith cleared 5-7¾ (1.72m) to place in a tie for ninth in the high jump, just missing All-East honors. Smith's clear of 5-7¾ matches her indoor season personal-best, which she set at last year's ECAC Indoor Championship. The height is tied for the second-best indoor height in Academy history.
Navy's 4x800m relay team of freshman Dale Lescher, freshman Amanda Mulkey, sophomore Madeline Zell and freshman Ashley Welker placed ninth with a season-best of 9:10.17. The time was the ninth-best in program history. The 4x800m relay team has advanced to Sunday's final of the event.
Junior Maressa Guynn placed 16th in the weight throw with a mark of 52-1¾ (15.89m).
Freshman Meghan Harvey ran a 2:55.41 in the prelims of the 1,000m run to place 15th and Welker placed 21st in the 800m run prelims at 2:19.90.
