ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's track and field team (6-0) opened its 2012 outdoor season on a high note in sub-par weather conditions by topping a seven-team field at Ingram Field Saturday. The Mids took first place with 241 points, besting Delaware (128), Maryland-Eastern Shore (123.5), Towson (111), Howard (76.5), Rowan (66) and American (7).
Navy won eight events on the day, including all four of the distance events 1,500m and longer and sophomore Lauren Allam posted Navy's first ECAC-qualifying mark of the season.
"Considering it was torrential rain and poor conditions, the team really rose to the occasion and we sent our seniors out on a great note in their last home meet," head coach Carla Criste said. "The whole team did a great job bonding together and the energy at the meet was very positive."
Senior outdoor captain Amanda Phelps won the hammer throw, making a mark of 166-10 (50.86m), in her last track meet on the grounds of the Naval Academy.
Phelps was also third in the shot put with a mark of 41-1½ (12.53m) and Allam was fourth (40-10½, 12.46m).
Junior Jacqueline Blackburn took first in the 10,000m run, clocking a 41:00.51.
