Navy Women's Track Claims 18 Events at McDaniel Twilight Invitational

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Navy women's track and field team (16-0) won 18 events and hit five ECAC-qualifying marks in field events at the McDaniel Twilight Invitational on Tuesday evening. Other teams competing on the women's side included Hagerstown, Stevenson, Montgomery and Washington and Lee. There was no team scoring.
Senior Amanda Phelps took first place in the shot put with a mark of 45-9¾ (13.96m, ECAC), which is Phelps' personal record and the third-best outdoor shot put mark in school history. It is also the best throw in the Patriot League this season. Phelps also won the hammer throw with a mark of 170-0 (51.83m, ECAC).
Sophomore Alix Membreno also surpassed the ECAC standard and made her best javelin mark of the season, a first-place effort of 139-11 (42.66m).
Junior Kristin Smith won the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 5-7 (1.70m). Earlier this season, Smith equaled the Navy school high jump record of 5-8¾ (1.75m).
Junior Jordan Kronshage won the pole vault with a clear of 10-6 (3.20m) and junior Melanie Sluzewicz took first in the long jump at 17-2¾ (5.25m). Sluzewicz edged freshman Sarah Barnum in the long jump by half an inch. Barnum was second at 17-2¼ (5.24m).
The Mids won all of the NCAA-sanctioned running events on the day. In the sprints, junior Jessica Ridgway won the 100m dash (12.65), senior Colleen McFadden captured the 200m (26.20) and freshman Leah Moore won the 400m (1:02.36).
Senior Mansfield Murph took first place in the 800m at 2:20.60, freshman Annie-Norah Beveridge won the 1,500m (4:44.05) and freshman Emily Jensen won the 10,000m run at 39:28.96 to round out the distance events.
In the hurdling events, freshman Amanda Graham won the 100m hurdles (16.54), Smith took first in the 400m hurdles (1:05.76) to go along with her high jump win and freshman Paige Miller took first in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:48.50).
Navy took first place in the two relay events, winning the 4x100m in 48.45 and crossing first in the 4x400m at 3:59.86.
Senior Jess Palacio (1,500m) and junior Brigid Byrne (10,000m) will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday and the rest of the team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
