Byrne Breaks Navy 10K Record at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Senior Brigid Byrne established a new Navy school record in the 10,000m run at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relay's at Hilmer Lodge Stadium and a number of Navy distance runners recorded new personal-best times. There was no team scoring.
Byrne ran a 34:51.23 to place sixth in the Olympic Development Elite 10,000m section. The previous school record belonged to Melissa Foon who ran a 35:08.27 in 2001. Byrne is now ranked 18th in the NCAA's East Region in the 10K and first in the Patriot League. Byrne's previous personal-best 10,000m time was a 35:35.51, which she ran at the 2012 Mt. Sac Relays.
Sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge placed 31st in the Olympic Development Elite 10K with a personal-best time of 36:50.19. Both Byrne and Beveridge's times were under the ECAC-qualifying standard.
Freshman Amanda Mulkey placed 116th in the 1,500m relay at 4:39.03. Mulkey is now ranked fourth in the Patriot League in the event.
Freshman Meghan Harvey placed 128th (4:40.09) in the 1,500m run and freshman Kelley Robinson was 131st (4:40.40). Freshman Ashley Welker was 153rd at 4:46.58. All four freshmen posted personal-best times in the 1,500m.
Welker also ran a 2:16.79 in the 800m run at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University to place 43rd and Harvey was 47th at 2:18.11 as both ran outdoor season best times. Freshman Dale Lescher was 66th in the 800m at 2:27.01.
Sophomore Christina Blair placed eighth in her section of the 3,000m steeplechase at 11:13.83.
In addition to Byrne's record-setting performance at Mt. SAC, junior Teronda Brown broke Navy's outdoor shot put record on Wednesday at the McDaniel Twilight Invitational with a mark of 47-5¾ (14.47m).
Navy will compete in the Penn Relays next Thursday.
