PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Navy's distance medley relay teamed up to register the second-fastest time in school history to highlight the women's track team's efforts on Thursday at the 115th running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
The Midshipmen foursome of Amy Watson (Jr., Hampstead, Md.) and Abby Gesecki (Jr., Nanticoke, Pa.) and Jess Palacio (Fr., Sparks, Nev.) and Mansfield Murph (Fr., Mechanicsville, Va.) clocked with a time of 12:02.89 to finish eighth overall in the college section of the event.
The effort was 14.42 seconds off the school-record pace of 11:48.47, set at the Penn Relays in 2003 by Tineisha Davis, Amy Stokes, Kacee Jossis and Lisa Procaccini.
The Mids also field relay squads in the 4x100m and 4x400m - both of which finished fourth in their respective heats.
In the former event, Ashley Aitken (Fr., Yuma, Ariz.), Krystina Johnson (Jr., Savannah, Ga.), Colleen McFadden (Fr., Ft. Washington, Md.) and Ashley Boykin (So., Radcliff, Ky.) clocked in at 49.41, while in the latter relay, Angelique Martin (Sr., Lexington Park, Md.), Dominique Wright (Fr., Washington, D.C.) combined with Gesecki and Murph to cross with a time of 4:00.31.
Leading the Mids in the throws was Mia Blundetto (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.), who placed sixth in the hammer (159-8; 48.68m), and Janet Von Eiff (So., San Diego, Calif.) who finished 20th in the shot put (39-11.5; 12.18m).
Navy opens the championship portion of its schedule next weekend at the Patriot League Championships in West Point, N.Y.
