Women's Track Finishes Fourth At Patriot League Outdoor Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A strong second day propelled the Navy women's track and field team to a fourth-place finish in the Patriot League Outdoor Championship Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland.

"I was very proud of the way we finished day two, which was highlighted with strong performances from our seniors," Navy head coach Carla Criste said. "Teronda Brown, Maressa Guynn and Lauren Allam having been doing well all year in the throwing events and helped give our team the boast we needed to finish fourth."

Navy picked up 80 points in 16 scoring events on Saturday to finish fourth with 109. Boston University was crowned the league's champion with 203.50 points. Lehigh (140.5) and Bucknell (129) followed right behind, finishing second and third, respectively. Army (91), Holy Cross (83.50), Lafayette (77.50), Colgate (10), American (7) and Loyola (7) rounded out the ten-team field.

Navy recorded three event champions in the field events. Senior Teronda Brown (Angleton, Texas) won the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 45-10.5 (13.98). Senior Maressa Guynn (Uniontown, Pa.) finished first in the discus with a throw of 161-8 (49.28m). Sophomore Crystan McLymore (Raleigh, N.C.) placed first in the triple jump with a performance of 38-10.5 (11.85m).

Senior Lauren Allam (Pasadena, Md.) finished second in the discus with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 158-8 (48.36m). Senior Veronica Ffrench (Milton, Fla.) came in third in the high jump with a mark of 5-5 (1.65m).



On the track, junior Madeline Zell (Severna Park, Md.) placed fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.88. Sophomore Kelley Robinson (Nederland, Colo.) finished fifth in the 5000m run with a mark of 17:29.79. Junior Christina Blair came in third in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the tape at 10:46.28 (ECAC).

Navy will have a week of rest before preparing for the 2014 ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Princeton, N.J.
