Women's Track and Field Second at PL Championships
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Navy women's track and field team concluded the opening day of the 2017 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in second place on Friday at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa.
On the women's side, the Bison finished the day with 82 points, nearly doubling up second-place Navy, who finished with 41.5. Host Lehigh sits in third-place with 39 points, with Boston University in fourth with 24 and Holy Cross in fifth with 22.5 points. Army West Point (12), Lafayette (10) and Loyola Maryland (3) round out the field.
Charlene Kearns led the way for the Midshipmen as the junior won the pole vault with a height of 3.70 meters (12-01.50). She was tied by teammate Maggie Ruud, but was awarded first place on judge's decision. Ruud claimed second place in the event to earn All-Conference accolades.
Hali McFadgen was Navy's top finisher in the long jump with a distance of 5.27m (17-03.50), while notching the fastest time of any Mid in the prelims of the 100m hurdles (15.06). Simon was the top Midshipmen performer in the javelin with a throw of 34.20m (112-02.75). Gabrielle Perrin clocked a time of 37:54.80 as the top finisher in the 10,000m run. In the 200m dash prelims, Aaliyah Gordon posted a time of 26.27 to lead all Midshipmen.
Competition continues on Saturday, May 6 at the Goodman Campus at Lehigh for the conclusion of the 2017 Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
