Ostrowski Highlights Opening Day at ECACs for Women's Track
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Freshman distance runner Claire Ostrowski ran a personal best in the 5,000-meter run for the Navy women's track and field team to highlight the opening day of competition at the ECAC Championships on Friday.
Ostrowski bested her best time in the 5,000m run by over seven seconds to clock a new personal record of 16:50.12 and finish ninth in the event. The time was the second fastest time in Navy women's track and field history. Melissa Foon holds the fastest time in the 5,000m run in school history with a time of 16:29.77 back in 2001.
Navy had a pair of competitors in the discus throw. Stephanie Simon posted a distance of 42.34m (138ft-11in) to finish 14th in the event, while Morgan Giraud recorded a throw of 39.49m (129-07) on the day.
Navy will continue competition in the ECAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Live results will be available throughout the meet.
