All-East Performances Highlight Day 1 of ECAC/IC4A Championships
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Navy track and field team opened up competition at the 2018 ECAC / IC4A Championships with a solid performance at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium. The Midshipmen had five individuals and a relay team earn All-East accolades on day one of competition. In addition, the Mids relay teams posted a pair of all-time top-10 performances in school history.
"It was a pretty good day and now we are just getting ready for tomorrow," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said after the first day of competition. "Our javelin was really good today. The 4x1 ran the second fastest time ever with a 39.98. It was really good breaking 40 again. We will see if that gets us into Regionals or not, but hopefully it will. The women's pole vault was pretty good and able to score there. The 4x1 on the women's side just missed out on All-East. They all have individual events tomorrow. We are going to go out there and continue to try to improve and get better."
In the javelin, the Midshipmen had three members of the men's team earn All-East accolades in the event, finishing in the top-8. Sean Richards (Skillman, N.J.) finished second overall with a throw of 65.60m (215-03), while Skyler Mason (Oakdale, Pa.) finished fourth with a distance of 62.97m (206-07). Ian Myers (Beaverton, Ore.) rounded out the All-East performances in the javelin with a seventh-place finish with a throw of 58.78m (192-10).
The women's pole vault saw a pair of Mids earn All-East honors. Maddi Falvey (Cypress, Texas) and Maggie Ruud (Fairfax Station, Va.) each posted a height of 3.70m (12-01.50). Falvey earned fifth place, while Ruud was awarded seventh on judge's decision.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.), Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M.), Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.), and Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) posted the second fastest time in school history with a time of 39.98. The time was good enough to finish second in the event, earning the quartet All-East honors.
The women's 4x100m relay team finished just outside of All-East distinction, placing ninth with the sixth fastest time in program history. The team of Amanda Henson (West Barnstable, Mass.), Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas), Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam), and Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) combined for a collective time of 46.74.
Sarah Morris (Mobile, Ala.) finished 12th in the javelin with a distance of 40.30m (132-03).
Bryson Kasper (Appleton, Wis.) and Mike Milcarek (Woodinville, Wash.) posted throws of 51.83m (170-00) and 50.82m (166-09) in the hammer throw, respectively. Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.) clocked a time of 9:34.23 in the 3,000m steeplechase, while Nicholas Williams (Bristol, R.I.) crossed the finish line in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.26.
