ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's track & field senior Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won two events to help the Midshipmen to victories over American, Mount St. Mary's and Towson in their season-opening meet on Tuesday night in Halsey Field House.

The Midshipmen posted the top performance in 11 of the 16 events to open the year with a 3-0 mark. Mount St. Mary's followed with a 2-1 record on the day, Towson posted a 1-2 mark and American fell to 0-3.

"I'm excited about the strength of our team this early in the season," stated Navy head coach Carla Criste. "The sprinters and jumpers performed ahead of where they were in comparison to this point last season."

Forsythe tied the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 55-meter dash, clocking in with a time of 7.15 seconds. Her performance matched Chantelle Nagbe's effort in 2000 and qualified her for the ECAC Championship in March. The senior came back in the evening to win the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.51 seconds, only .04-second away from the 10th-fastest mark in school history.

"Loni's performance in the 55-meter dash really bodes well for things to come this season," said Criste. "I was impressed with her ability to carry her speed over from the 55 meters to the 200 meters. She really looks fit right now."

Junior Jessica Orr (New Holland, Pa.) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.15 and assisted on the event-champion 4x400-meter relay. Orr, junior Taren Burkett (Virginia Beach, Va.), senior Priscilla Lewis (St. Andrews, Jamaica) and freshman Abby Gesecki (Nanticoke, Pa.) combined for a 4:10.75 showing.

Senior Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) claimed first in the shot put with a toss of 40'3/4" (12.21 meters). Still also finished second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.42 seconds and placed fourth in the 55-meter dash with a 7.53-second showing.

Finishing in 8.28 seconds to win the 55-meter hurdles was senior indoor team captain Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.). Andrews also tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 11'3-3/4" (3.45 meters).

Junior Jacquelyn Charnigo (Medina, Ohio) won the high jump with a clearance of 5'3" (1.60 meters). The junior joined Andrews for the second-place tie in the pole vault with a matching 11'3-3/4" (3.45 meters) performance.

Senior Erin Demchko (Pearl River, N.Y.) crossed the finish line first in the mile, posting a time of 5:12.68. Junior Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) captured first in the 800-meter run with a 2:19.84 showing, followed by senior Allison Barlow's (Orange Park, Fla.) victory in the 3,000-meter run with a 10:32.10 clocking. Junior Lauren Burmeister (Brownsdale, Minn.) concluded the evening with a first-place performance in the triple jump, soaring 36'5-3/4" (11.12 meters).

The Midshipmen return to action on Jan. 6, 2007, when they travel to the UMES Invitational in Princess Anne, Md. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
