Women's Track Prepares for Terrapin Invitational on Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s track & field squad gears up for the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. Events will begin at 9 a.m. with the women’s 5,000-meter run on the track and the men’s weight throw on the infield. The final running events of the day, the 4x400 relays, are tentatively scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Navy is slated to compete against American, Christopher Newport, Coppin State, Delaware State, UDC, Hagerstown CC, Howard, Johns Hopkins, Loyola (Md.), Mary Washington, Maryland, Morgan State, Richmond and UMBC.
Navy went a perfect 4-0 in its winter invitational, defeating Delaware (312-243), James Madison (320-221), Maryland-Eastern Shrore (398-111) and Mount St. Mary’s (395-108).
Shannon Cuthbert continues to run well, finishing first in the 1000-mete run for the second consecutive meet. Cuthbert’s 1000m time of 3:00.94 is a career-best. Following a James Madison runner, Navy tallied the next five runners across the finishing line with Christina Shawver leading the pack (3:02.11).
Freshman Hali McFadgen recorded another strong performance for her second career meet. McFadgen placed first in the long jump with a career-best mark of 5.50m. She followed up with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 9.03.
Following the meet, Navy will have a week off to prepare before its meet against archrival Army on Feb. 1 at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
