ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s and women’s track and field teams continue the indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 20, as the Midshipmen take part in the Maryland Terrapin Invitational. The meet takes place at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md.

“We are using this as an opportunity to build towards the upcoming championship part of the season. Anytime you get a chance to compete, it is a good thing. I am confident our athletes will do their best this weekend to represent themselves and the Naval Academy well.”

Conference Corner
The Navy track and field team has registered 12 student-athletes as M-F Athletic Patriot League Performers of the Week. The Midshipmen have had two Male Track Athletes of the Week – Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M.) and Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) – and two Female Track Athletes of the Week – Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y. – 2x) and Grace West (Pinehurst, N.C.). Jahna Alleyne (York, Pa.) was named Female Field Athlete of the Week, while Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) and Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) were each named Male Field Athletes of the Week. Plebes Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas – 2x) and Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo. – 2x) were each named PL Rookie of the Week.

Mids to Watch
The relay team of Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas), Christina Quigley (Lorton, Va.), Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y.), and Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) recorded the second fastest time in program history in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:48.33 at the Navy Invitational / Multis last weekend.

Edwards, who had Navy's fastest time in the 60m dash (7.84), was the top Mid in the 200m dash, posting the fourth fastest time in school history (25.11). Burg, the indoor captain, notched an ECAC time in the 400m dash with a time of 56.04, which was the seventh fastest time in Navy history. Agana finished just behind Burg with an ECAC qualifying time of 56.39 in the 400m dash.

Senior and outdoor captain Ashanti Curry (Jacksonville, N.C.) recorded a throw of 14.09m in the shot put to qualify for the ECACs. The distance was also the sixth best in program history.

The Midshipmen also clocked an ECAC qualifying time of 9:21.85 in the 4x800m relay. Phoebe Kirk (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and Ali Valenti (Lansdale, Pa.) notched Navy season-best times of 3:01.51 and 5:03.39 in the 1,000m run and the 1-mile run, respectively, while Audrey Brandon (Lima, Ohio) posted a season-best mark of 15.56m in the weight throw.

On the men's side, Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.) finished back-to-back in the 60m dash with IC4A qualifying times of 6.93 and 6.97. Lanier (21.56) edged out Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M. - 21.63) in the 200m dash to claim the event, while Watson (21.88) and Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass. - 21.93) each clocked times under 22.

Defending Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.) posted an IC4A qualifying time of 49.10 to finish as the Mids best performer in the event, while Nicholas Williams (Bristol, R.I.) notched an IC4A time of 1:54.04 to finish second in the 800m run.

Jake Shewbert (Flowery Branch, Ga. - 2:27.11), Cory Donley (Salina, Kan. - 4:10.79), and Gabriel Collison (La Crescenta, Calif. - 8:19.44) each posted season-best times for the Mids in the 1,000m, 1-mile, and 3,000m runs, respectively. The trio each notched IC4A qualifying times, while Michael Karls (Festus, Mo.) also finished the 3K with an IC4A time of 8:24.15.

Kordell Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) continued his impressive start to the season with another IC4A qualifier in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 8.14.

Navy's men's relay teams posted season-best times in the 4x400m (3:17.97) and the 4x800 (7:50.32) to qualify for the postseason.

Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.) posted a PR in the pole vault with a height of 5.10m to finish second overall. The height was the best of the season for the Midshipmen and qualified the junior for the IC4As.

Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) notched a pair of second place finishes with IC4A qualifying distances in both the long jump (7.25m) and the triple jump (14.59m), while Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) continued to lead the throwers with a season-best distance in the shot put (16.90m) to finish third. Brennan claimed second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.96m.

Last Time at Navy Invitational / Multis (Jan. 13, 2018):
Nine Wesley A. Brown Field House records were broken on Saturday as the Navy track and field team hosted its strongest meet of the season in the Navy Invitational / Multis as Navy played host to George Mason, Mount St. Mary's, Penn, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. Six women's events -- 400-meter dash, 4x400m relay, high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump -- saw new facility records, while three events on the men's side also had records broken -- 1,000m run, 4x400m relay, and shot put. The Navy women's team posted four top-10 school performances, while also notching four ECAC qualifying marks. On the men's side, the Midshipmen recorded 19 IC4A qualifying marks on the day.
