Byrne Named Patriot League Runner of the Week
Jan. 22, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Senior Brigid Byrne (Vienna, Va.) has been named the M-F Athletic Patriot League Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office recently announced.
Byrne won the 5,000m run with a converted time of 17:02.12 at the non-team scored Maryland Invitational last Saturday. The time is the second-best in Naval Academy history, Byrne's personal best and the top time in the Patriot League this season.
Byrne, the 2012 Patriot League Indoor 5,000m run champion, has also clocked a 17:08.00 in the 5,000m run earlier this season at the Navy Invitational.
Both of Byrne's 5,000m run times this season are under the ECAC Championship qualifying standard and the senior ranks No. 2 in the ECAC and sixth nationally at this point in the season.
This is the second track athlete of the week award for indoor track in Byrne's career and she has won one weekly award for outdoor track.
Byrne and the women's track and field program will compete at George Mason's Patriot Games this Saturday at 10:00 AM.
