New York City - The Navy women's indoor track and field team got record-setting performances from Tineisha Davis (Jr., Madisonville, Ky./North Hopkins) and Jen Leatherman (So., Timbo.ark/Rolla, Mo.) at the Princeton Invitational en route to a third place finish with107.50 points. Columbia and Princeton tied for the win with 157 points.

“We had some really strong performances this weekend,” said head coach Carla Criste. “I was pleased with how we performed and I think we should be ready for Army on Saturday.”

On Friday, Leatherman broke her own Naval Academy record in the 20-lb weight throw of 60'2-1/2” (18.35m), which she set at the Delaware Invitational on Jan. 9, with a toss of 60'9-1/4” (18.52m) to finish first in the event. The distance also makes Leatherman a provisional qualifier for the NCAA meet. The sophomore also won the shot put with a throw of 4'11-1/2” (13.70m) narrowly missing her record in the event. Navy also got a fifth place finish from Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J./Bishop Eustace) in shot put with a personal best toss of 39'-3/4” (12.03m).

On the second day of the competition, Davis broke her own school record in the 500m run with a time of 1:12.40. Her previous record was 1:12.56 which the junior set in 2003. She is now qualified for the ECAC Championships later this season.

Aside from the record-setting performances by Davis and Leatherman, the Mids had several other strong outings. In the 60m hurdles the trio of Kristen Andrews (Fr., New Holland, Pa./ Garden Spot) (9.30), Katie Scotidas (Jr., Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) (9.32), and Still (9.50) each set career-best times while finishing second, third and fourth respectively. Freshman Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn./School for the Arts and Sciences) brought home first place in the 200m run with a season best time of 25.45. Earlier in the day she had posted the team's top 60m dash time of the season with a mark of 7.88 to finish second. The women also finished the weekend strong in the field events. Michelle Schiller (So., Glendale, Ariz./T.F. South, Ill.) set a new career best with a jump of 18'1-3/4” (5.53m) to finish second in the long jump. In the pole vault, Tina Terry (So., Olive Branch, Miss/Valley Christian, Wash.) and Andrews finished second and third clearing heights of 11'3-3/4” (3.45m) and 11'5-3/4” (3.50m), respectively.

The Mids return home to host Army next Saturday at Halsey Field House at 3 p.m.
