Women’s Track and Field to Host Multi Mix Meet
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s track and field team closes out the home portion of the schedule with the Multi Mix Meet on Thursday afternoon. Competition begins at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley A. Brown Field House.

The Navy track and field team has registered 16 student-athletes as M-F Athletic Patriot League Performers of the Week. The Midshipmen have had two Male Track Athletes of the Week – Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M.) and Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) – and two Female Track Athletes of the Week – Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y. – 2x) and Grace West (Pinehurst, N.C.). Jahna Alleyne (York, Pa.) was named Female Field Athlete of the Week, while Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) and Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga. – 2x) were each named Male Field Athletes of the Week. Plebes Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas – 3x), Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo. – 3x), and John Barber (Sugar Land, Texas) were each named PL Rookie of the Week.
Last Time Out (vs. Army, Feb. 3, 2018):
The Navy women's track and field team posted a strong performance against rival Army West Point, but ultimately fell short 94.50-86.50 on Saturday afternoon at Wesley Brown Field House. On the day, Navy posted four finishes in the school's all-time top 10.
In the 60-meter dash, Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) tied for the fourth fastest time in program history with a time of 7.67. The time was an ECAC qualifier for the sophomore sprinter. Tugade was joined in the 60m dash by Wade-Watta Kamara (Virginia Beach, Va.) who notched a season-best time of 7.76 in the event.
The 200m dash saw Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) and Tugade post a pair of Navy top-10 performances. Edwards clocked an ECAC qualifying time of 24.92 to etch her name into the Navy record book for the third time as a plebe. Edwards holds the third, fourth and sixth best times in the 200m dash in Mids' history. Tugade posted the seventh fastest time in school history with a 25.18 in the event.
Julia Speranzo (Springfield, Va.) won the high jump with a season-best height of 1.70m (5-07.00). The height is an ECAC qualifier and ties the sophomore for fourth best in Navy indoor history.
Navy posted wins in the 400m and 500m dashes. Edwards cruised to a victory in the 400m dash with a time of 57.72, finishing ahead of teammate Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) who clocked a time of 58.69 to claim second place. In the 500m dash, senior captain Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y.) posted an ECAC qualifying time of 1:14.77 to win the event by nearly two seconds.
The 1,000m run saw Phoebe Kirk (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and Rachel Fairbanks (Jamesville, N.Y.) finish second and third with ECAC times of 2:52.82 and 2:53.50, respectively. Ali Valenti (Lansdale, Pa.) was the top finisher in the 3,000m run with a season-best time of 10:06.54 to finish second.
Alyssa Chang (Chula Vista, Calif.) trimmed 15-hundredths of a second off of team-best time in the 60m hurdles to clock a 9.06 to earn second in the event.
Competing in her first meet of the season for the Midshipmen, Tugade claimed first place in the long jump with the second-best distance of the season in the event (5.60m / 18-04.50). The triple jump saw Audrey Fernandez (South Hill, Wash.) and Evelyn Berecz (Downington, Pa.) finish second and third overall with jumps of 12.14m (39-10.00) and 12.09m (39-08.00), respectively.
Izzy Marini (Elkgrove, Calif.) was the top finisher in the shot put with a season-best throw of 13.47m (44-02.50), while Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) was the top Mid in the weight throw with a distance of 15.43m (50-07.50).
