Women's Track & Field Hosts Multi-Madness Meet Tuesday

Maressa Guynn

Feb. 10, 2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's track and field squad will host its annual winter invitational on Tuesday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Tuesday's meet will be Navy's final home meet of the indoor track and field season.

The Mids welcome Johns Hopkins, Loyola (Md.), Maryland and McDaniel, starting at 4 p.m. for the team-scored meet. The pentathlon is traditionally a highlight of the Navy Multi-Madness Meet and 17 competitors participated in the multi-events last season.

Navy heads back to the track after a week off from its win against Army in the annual star meet on Feb. 1. The Mids took down Army for the ninth-straight year, 104-77, at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Navy improved its all-time series record over Army, 15-12-1.

Navy put on an all-around team performance, finishing first in 12 of the 17 total events. The Mids won five of six field events and seven of the 11 events on the track.

Navy fed off of the energy that Madeline Zell (Jr., Severna Park, Md.) gave off during the entire meet. Before the competition began, Zell sang the national anthem that seemed to give Navy and the entire field house an indescribable spark. She followed up with a first-place finish in the 800m (2:16.80).

Hali McFadgen (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) had strong finishes in both the 60m hurdles (8.97) and long jump (5.56m), finishing first in both. McFadgen's marks in both events were personal bests.

Maressa Guynn (Sr., Uniontown, Pa.) recorded her second-consecutive ECAC-qualifying performance in the weight throw (1st place) with a mark of 17.29m (also her new personal best). Teronda Brown (Sr., Angleton, Texas) finished first in the shot put with a mark of 13.29m.

Navy's next competition will be the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championships from February 21-23 at Lewisburg, Pa. Navy placed second to Bucknell at last year's indoor championship.
