ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's track & field team hosts its final tune-up prior to the 2009-10 Patriot League Indoor Championships on Thursday evening at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Sweetheart Multi-Mix meet, which will see squads from Loyola (Md.) and McDaniel College (Division III) join the Midshipmen women, is scheduled to commence with the opening event of the pentathlon (60-meter hurdles) and the 20-pound weight throw, both beginning at 4:00 pm.

With the postponement of last weekend's Army-Navy dual meet (now slated for Feb. 26 at 5:30 pm, Thursday's competition now holds increased importance for the Mids, who will be looking to put up some strong performances in an effort improve their seeding at the conference championship.

Navy heads into this competition with a pair of individual ECAC qualifiers in sophomore Amanda Phelps in the weight throw (16.04 meters) and freshman Kristin Smith in the high jump (1.70 meters). The underclassmen duo is among the several Midshipmen who stack up well with the league's top performers entering the week. Phelps is currently second in the weight throw and tied for third in the shot put (12.50 meters). Smith, meanwhile, is tied atop the high jump ledger with Army freshman McKenzie Majchrzak. Senior Erica Ziel in the 5,000 (17:52.03), junior Ashley Bucholz in the triple jump (11.23 meters) and sophomore Jess Palacio in the 800 (2:14.41) each currently paces the Patriot League in their respective signature events.
