Byrne and Beveridge Receive Patriot League Academic Honors
Feb. 26, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Senior Brigid Byrne (Vienna, Va.) and sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge (Ann Arbor, Mich.) have been named to the 2013 Patriot League Women's Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Since the Patriot League began naming all-academic teams in the fall of 2010, Byrne has been selected to the squad eight times: three times in cross country, three times in indoor track and twice in outdoor track.
Byrne was selected as a Third-Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA for women's cross country and track and field for the 2011-12 academic year and was also an academic all-district first-team honoree. She was the 2012 Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Byrne carries a 3.87 GPA as an English (honors) major and an Arabic minor and she has been named to the Superintendent's list in all seven of her semesters at the Naval Academy. She ranks 32nd in the Class of 2013 in Overall Order of Merit and is No. 13 in Military Order of Merit
The distance runner placed second in the 5,000m run and was third in the 3,000m run at the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship earlier this month. Byrne earned all-league second-team honors for her runner-up finish in the 5K.
Byrne ran her personal-best time in the 5,000m this year, a 16:51.06, which is the second-best indoor time in Academy history. She also turned in a personal-best time in the 3,000m at 9:51.09. In seven 3K and 5K races this indoor season, she won twice and never placed lower than fourth.
Byrne was named the Patriot League Track-Athlete of the Week on January 21.
She qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships in both the 3,000m run and the 5,000m run and is scheduled to compete in both at the postseason regional meet this weekend.
Beveridge has been named to her second Patriot League All-Academic Team, after also receiving the honor for cross country this past fall. Beveridge is an international relations major and Spanish minor with a 3.53 GPA. She has been named to the Superintendent's List and the Commandant's List in all three of her semesters at the Academy.
Beveridge placed second in the 3,000m run at the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship and grabbed third place in the 5,000m run. Beveridge was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for her runner-up finish in the 3,000m run.
The sophomore set new personal-records in both the 3,000m (9:50.14) and the 5,000m (17:05.73) this season. Her 3K time is the ninth-best in program history and the 5K time is the seventh-best. Beveridge ran four 5K races this season, posting ECAC-qualifying times each time and always placing in the top three.
Beveridge was named the Patriot League Track-Athlete of the Week on December 10.
Beveridge was the medalist at the 2012 Patriot League Cross Country Championship and helped Navy earn the team title. Byrne was second. Beveridge also competed in the NCAA Cross Country Championship last fall.
Like Byrne, Beveridge has qualified for the ECACs in both the 3,000m and the 5,000m and is slated to compete in both this weekend in Boston.
Byrne, Beveridge and eight other individuals and the 4x800m relay team will compete at the 2013 ECAC Indoor Championship this Saturday and Sunday.
