CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy freshman Christine Scales (Monte Sereno, Calif.) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced earlier this afternoon. Scales earned her first career weekly league honor after a strong showing in this past weekend's outdoor lifter in Annapolis.
In that meet, she won the high jump with a 5'3" (1.60m) clearance, while also tying for first in the pole vault (10'; 3.05m) in helping the Navy women top the four-team field, which included squads from American, Loyola (Md.) and Maryland.
Just over a month ago, Scales delivered a breakthrough performance in her league championship debut, claiming the conference's top honors in the high jump. She was one of four Navy freshmen to earn all-league honors at the indoor meet and one of just three conference rookies to win an individual title.
The efforts of junior Mia Blundetto (Apple Valley, Minn.) were also recognized as she was named to the conference's honorable mention list. Blundetto achieved a personal record and ECAC-qualifying toss of 50.30m (165') to win the hammer throw in Saturday's competition.
Navy is back in action this Saturday in Towson, Md., where the Mids will compete at the Tiger Invitational.
