CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Navy women’s track and field squad has been tabbed to finish third at the 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Championship, announced Tuesday by the league’s preseason poll. The league’s head coaches and sports information directors voted on the ten-team field with the exception of not voting your own team.
Boston University is the heavy favorite to win the league, tallying 15 first-place votes and a total of 157 points. Lehigh and Navy each split four of the final five first-place votes and recorded 133 and 127 points, respectively. Bucknell tallied the final first-place vote and was fourth (127), while Holy Cross (93), Army (87), Lafayette (71), Colgate (47), Loyola (36) and American (20) rounded out the ten-team field.
Navy placed second at the 2013 Patriot League Outdoor Championship with 141 points. Bucknell won the team title with 183 points.
The Mids return three athletes from the 2013 All-Patriot League First Team, which includes Crystan McLymore (triple jump), Maressa Guynn (discus) and Alix Membreno (javelin). Guynn is the returning Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet, throwing a championship meet record 170-6 (51.97m) in the discus.
The 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Championship will be held from May 2-3 at Ingram Field in Annapolis.
