Women's Track Heads to George Mason Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's outdoor track and field program (1-0) will compete at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va. The field events begin at 10:00 AM and the first running event will be at 12 noon. There will be a late session for the distance events beginning at 7:00 PM.
Navy is coming off a 107-96 victory over Army last Saturday at Ingram Field to win the Outdoor N-Star for the fifth-straight year. Navy has now swept the indoor and outdoor series against Army for five-straight seasons. Additionally, Navy took its first-ever lead in the outdoor series at 14-13.
Navy won 11 of 19 events, taking first-place in five individual running events, one relay, three throws and two jumps. Navy garnered maximum points in three events (1,500m, 5,000m and high jump) by placing 1-2.
Senior Kristin Smith and junior Veronica Ffrench went 1-2 in the high jump, senior Brigid Byrne and sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge went 1-2 in the 5K and the freshman trio of Meghan Harvey, Amanda Mulkey and Kelley Robinson went 1-2-3 in the 1,500m run.
The Mids also turned in five ECAC-qualifying performances against Army. Senior Brigid Byrne won the 5,000m with a new Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet record of 16:54.22 and the first-place 4x100m relay team of Jessica Ridgway, Veronica Ffrench, Kristin Smith and Arabia Littlejohn was under the ECAC standard at 47.77.
Navy's other three ECAC marks came in the throws by Lauren Allam (1st, 155-2) and Maressa Guynn (3rd, 152-11) in the discus and Alix Membreno in the javelin (1st, 141-4).
Navy has two competitions on its schedule next week, the McDaniel Twilight Invitational on Wednesday and the Mt. SAC Relay's from Thursday to Saturday.
