WALNUT, Calif.- Melissa Foon (Sr./Lexington, Ky.) continued her outstanding season when she turned in a NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 35:08.27 in the 10,000m run at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday.

Foon broke the previous record of 36:27.8 set by Jackie Hayes in 1998. It was Foon's first time competing in the event. She normally runs the 3000m and 5000m run.

"She ran a great race, " said Navy assistant track & field coach Karen Boyle. "It's twice as long as she usually runs. The mental aspect of the 10k was tough, especially in the fourth and fifth mile. She finished strong."

Foon will lead the Midshipmen back in action this weekend when the Mids travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Penn Relays.
