ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy women’s track and field squad will participate at the McDaniel Twilight Meet Wednesday before competing at the 120th Penn Relays Carnival this weekend.
Navy finished second out of four teams at the James Madison Invitational last Saturday. The Mids recorded six first-place finishes and three ECAC-qualifying performances.
Navy’s discus throwers had the best outing of the group for the Mids at the meet, tallying all three ECAC-qualifying performances. Maressa Guynn (167-10), Lauren Allam (165-7) and Teronda Brown (154-6) finished 1-2-3 in the discus, all of which were ECAC-qualifying marks.
Brown continued her strong outdoor season in the shot put, finishing first in the event with a throw of 44-3.25 (13.49m). Amanda Graham and Marissa Stewart went 1-2 in the pole vault with identical marks of 11-5.75 (3.5m).
Senior Veronica Ffrench finished first in the high jump with a mark of 5-3 (1.60m). Christina Blair and Paige Miller placed 1-2 in the 3000m steeplechase with finishing times of 10:58.66 and 11:16.51, respectively.
Navy has recorded 13 performances that have landed 10 different Mids with top-five marks in the Patriot League. Senior outdoor captain Teronda Brown has tallied two top-five Patriot League performances in the shot put (2nd; 46-6.25) and the discus (3rd; 154-6). Senior Veronica Ffrench has also recorded two top-five performances amongst Patriot League competitors in the high jump (T-3rd; 5-7) and in the triple jump (4th; 37-3.75).
Navy will host the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday, May 2 to Saturday, May 3 at Ingram Field in Annapolis.
