ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's track & field team (9-2) will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays Thursday-Saturday.

While the Midshipmen had last weekend off, Melissa Foon (Sr./Lexington, Ky.) traveled to Walnut, Calif. to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays. Foon continued her outstanding season when she turned in a NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 35:08.27 in the 10,000m run. She broke the previous record of 36:27.8 set by Jackie Hayes in 1998. It was Foon's first time competing in the event. She normally runs the 3000m and 5000m run.

She joins Amy Baxter (Sr./Cheshire, Conn.) as Navy's NCAA provisional qualifiers. Baxter provisionally qualified in the women's 3000m steeplechase in the Army/Navy outdoor meet on April 7. It is the first year women have been able to compete in the steeplechase.
