ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s track and field team will travel to the ECAC Championship Friday at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey.
A strong second day propelled the Navy women's track and field team to a fourth-place finish in the Patriot League Outdoor Championship Saturday, May 3 in Annapolis, Maryland. Navy picked up 80 points in 16 scoring events on Saturday to finish fourth with 109.
Navy recorded three event champions in the field events. Senior Teronda Brown (Angleton, Texas) won the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 45-10.5 (13.98). Senior Maressa Guynn (Uniontown, Pa.) finished first in the discus with a throw of 161-8 (49.28m). Sophomore Crystan McLymore (Raleigh, N.C.) placed first in the triple jump with a performance of 38-10.5 (11.85m).
Guynn and Brown are both ranked in the top 48 in the NCAA East Region of the discus throw, respectively, at 21st and 42nd. Guynn also sits 48th in the hammer throw. Senior thrower Lauren Allam is also in the top 48 in the discus, sitting 30th.
Along with the three senior throwers, Veronica Ffrench will compete this weekend in the high jump and Christina Blair in the 3000m steeplechase. Blair and Ffrench both rank 78th in the NCAA East Regional. Blair will need to shave off more than 15 seconds off her season-best mark of 10:46.28 to potentially qualify. Ffrench will need to add two inches to her season mark of 5-7 to qualify.
Following this weekend’s meet, Navy athletes who qualify in the top 48 of their event will compete in the NCAA East Regionals on Thursday, May 29 through Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., hosted by the University of North Florida.
