ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's outdoor track and field team will have three athletes competing at the NCAA East Regional Championship this Thursday through Saturday in Jacksonville. North Florida is hosting the meet at Hodges Stadium. Live results and live video will be available.

The top 48 athletes in the East Region in each event will be competing to place in the top 12 this weekend to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship next month.

Navy's three qualified athletes in the regional are the most in the Patriot League on the women's side. Navy's three athletes played an important role in the Mids winning the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championship earlier this month.

Senior Jess Palacio (Sun Valley, Nev.) is making her third straight appearance in the NCAA Regional. Palacio will compete in the first round of the 1,500m on Thursday at 6:00 PM.

Palacio will race in the first of four 12-person heats. The top five finishers in each heat plus the next four fastest times overall will advance to the national quarterfinals, which will be held on Saturday in Jacksonville at 6:45 PM.

Palacio's school record time of 4:20.87 is the seventh best in her heat and is ranked 28th in the field.

This is Palacio's third straight year at the NCAA East Regional. She placed 13th in the 800m in 2011 and was 39th in the 1,500m as a sophomore in 2010.

Palacio is aiming to qualify for a third NCAA Championship in her senior year. Palacio competed in the NCAA Cross Country Championship in the fall and earned Second-Team All-America honors in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship this past winter.

Palacio won the 800m and the 1,500m at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship and was named the track-athlete of the meet for the fourth time in her career.

Sophomore Lauren Allam (Pasadena, Md.) will be competing at the NCAA Regional for the second straight year when she throws the discus at 3:00 PM on Friday.

Allam is seeded 23rd in the discus with her season-best mark of 164-9 (50.22m). Allam placed 37th in the discus at the regional last year.

Sophomore Alix Membreno (Loxahatchee, Fla.) has qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the javelin for the second straight year as well.

Membreno be Navy's first athlete in competition, as the javelin will be contested at 4:30 PM Thursday. Membreno placed 37th in the javelin at last year's regional.

Membreno and Allam both placed second in their respective events at the Patriot League Championship three weeks ago and Membreno placed third at the ECAC Championship to earn All-East honors two weeks ago.

Navy is looking to send its first competitor to the Division I outdoor meet since Kim McGreevey in 1995. McGreevey earned All-America honors by placing 13th in the 3,000m run.
