Navy's Three Discus Throwers Headed to NCAA East Prelims

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Looking to cap off successful careers, Navy women’s track and field senior discus throwers Lauren Allam (Pasadena, Md.), Teronda Brown (Angleton, Texas) and Maressa Guynn (Uniontown, Pa.) will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round Thursday through Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida at Hodges Stadium, hosted by the University of North Florida.
The three discus throwers will need to finish in the top 12 to qualify for the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon on June 11-14.
Guynn leads the Navy throwers with a mark of 167-10 (51.15m), which ranks her 24th amongst the East Region. Guynn recorded her season-best performance at the James Madison Invitational. She is competing at the NCAA East Regional for the second time, finishing 45th last season.
Eight spots behind Guynn is teammate Allam with a mark of 165-7 (50.46m). Allam also tallied her best mark of the season at the JMU Invitational. Allam is competing in the East Preliminary Round for the fourth time and final time of her career. She finished 37th in 2011, 43rd in 2012 and 28th in 2013.
Brown rounds out the group at 42nd with a throw of 162-9 (49.65m). Brown tallied her mark at the Penn Relays. The Angleton, Texas native will be competing for the first time in her career at the NCAA East Regional.
All three throwers will look to advance to the NCAA Championship when they look to qualify on Friday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m.
