Navy Track Programs Top Patriot League Preseason Polls

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Navy men's and women's track and field programs have each been tabbed as preseason favorites for the 2012-13 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field season, according to the Patriot League preseason poll. The preseason poll is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information contacts.
Head coach Stephen Cooksey's men's team received eight first-place votes to garner 92 total points to tie for first place in the preseason poll with defending league champion Bucknell. Army was third with 74 points, followed by Lehigh (62), Lafayette (50), Colgate (33), American (30) and Holy Cross (15).
Bucknell edged Navy by 8.75 points at the 2012 Patriot League Indoor Championship. However, Navy did win Patriot League titles in 10 events and also placed second in three events.
Head coach Carla Criste's women's team received 11 first-place votes to amass 95 total points to edge defending champion Bucknell (89) by six points in the poll. Lehigh was third in the women's poll with 71 points, followed by Army (58), Holy Cross (51), Colgate (38), Lafayette (32) and American (14).
The Navy women placed second to Bucknell at the 2012 Patriot League Indoor Championship, but rebounded to capture the league's outdoor team title in May.
The Navy women won four events at last season's indoor championship meet and had two runner-up finishes.
The Navy men will open the 2012-13 indoor season on December 1 at home and the Navy women will host its annual Lid Lifter meet on Thursday, December 6.
Army will host the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship in West Point, N.Y. from February 15-17.
