Burg, Edwards Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior captain Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y.) and freshman Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) claimed a pair of Patriot League weekly accolades on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office. Burg was tabbed PL Female Track Athlete of the Week, while Edwards was named PL Female Rookie of the Week following their performances in the annual Navy Lid Lifter meet on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Burg posted a pair of first place finishes in the first indoor meet of the season, the Navy Lid Lifter, winning the 500-meter dash and the 4x400m relay. The senior captain ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay, joining Edwards, Christina Quigley (Lorton, Va.), and Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) in the relay. The team came from behind to win the event, clocking the second fastest time in program history. In addition, Burg registered an ECAC qualifying time with a first place finish in the 500m dash with a time of 1:14.47.
Edwards had a breakout performance in her first collegiate meet. The plebe posted a pair of first place finishes and clocked an ECAC qualifying time. In the 60m dash, Edwards clocked a 7.75, which was one hundredth of a second shy of placing the freshman in Navy's all-time top 10 in the event. The 60m time was also just two hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for the ECACs. Edwards placed third in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line with an ECAC qualifying time of 56.31. The time was also the 10th fastest indoor performance in Navy history. The freshman ran the lead leg on the 4x400m relay team that posted an ECAC qualifying time of 3:48.53.
Navy returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 6, as the Midshipmen travel to Fairfax, Va. for the George Mason Indoor Invitational.
