CENTERVILLE, Mass. - For her two first-place efforts in helping Navy to a 3-0 record to open the season last week, senior women's track & field sprinter Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has been named the ECAC Division I Track Athlete of the Week.
Forsythe, who was selected as the Patriot League Track Performer of the Week yesterday, is the first Mid to earn ECAC weekly honors on the track since Tineisha Davis in 2004.
The product of Chattanooga, Tenn., tied the fourth-fastest time in school history with an ECAC Championship qualifying, 7.15-second clocking in the 55-meter dash during Navy's season-opening meet against American, Mount St. Mary's and Towson last week in Annapolis. Forsythe came back to win the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.51 seconds, only 0.04 second away from matching the 10th-best time in program history.
The Midshipmen are off for final exams and will return to action following the holiday break on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at the UMES Invitational in Princess Anne, Md.
