The 2009 season will mark Heidi Mass' fourth year as a member of the Navy coaching staff.
A four-year letterwinner at Penn State, Mass began her coaching career in 1989 as the head coach for the New Kensington-Arnold School District in Pennsylvania. She soon moved up to the collegiate ranks when she became the head coach at Johns Hopkins in 1993, a position she held through the 1997 season when she left the coaching ranks.
Mass soon returned to the sideline as an assistant coach at Northern High School. The team would win the state title during her initial 2001 season at school.
In addition to her coaching duties at Navy, Mass also serves as the Commissioner of Bay Area Volleyball Academy South and Head Coach for BAVA Elite Travel team. She also tutors and teaches with a supplemental instruction group for the biology, anatomy and physiology program at Anne Arundel Community College.
Mass has also coached with the All-Navy program during multiple summers.
She and her husband, Lou, are the parents of three children: son Zane and daughters Shelby (who is attending the Naval Academy Prep School) and Chandler.
