ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The 2017 Navy volleyball schedule was announced today by head coach Larry Bock. Now in his seventh year at Navy, Bock, the winningest coach in NCAA volleyball history, returns all but one starter, three letterwinners and four players from the 2016 squad that posted an overall record of 20-9 and placed fourth in the Patriot League with a 10-6 record.

The 2017 schedule, which is subject to change, is available to both view online and download for free to a calendar on a computer or mobile device by clicking HERE.

Navy will be facing during its 13-match non-Patriot League slate:
* teams from 11 different conferences (Atlantic-10, Big South, Colonial Athletic Association, Ivy League, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, Northeast, Southern, Summit League);
* one team it played during the 2016 campaign (Maryland Eastern Shore);
* three teams for the first time in school history (Ball State, Bradley, Fort Wayne);
* six teams that posted winning records during their respective 2016 conference season (Ball State, Fort Wayne, High Point, Maryland Eastern Shore, Robert Morris, UNCG);
* and one 2016 NCAA Tournament team (High Point).

“We very carefully crafted our non-league schedule to have our continually improving team play at a consistently high level throughout the four weeks of matches,” said Bock. “There won’t be too many chances for us to lose focus against any of the teams, which is good preparation for the arduous league season that follows.”

Navy’s campaign begins Aug. 25-26 with the Mids playing host to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational. Navy will face Akron on the opening day of the season with matches against Saint Francis U. and Maryland Eastern Shore taking place on the following day.

The Mids will remain at home for an Aug. 30 match against Air Force before taking to the road for three consecutive weekends. That stretch begins with matches against Ball State (Sept. 1), Fort Wayne (Sept. 1) and Bradley (Sept. 2) at the Ball State Invitational.

Navy will then travel to Philadelphia the next weekend for a trio of matches at the La Salle / Penn Invitational. The Mids will take on the Explorers (Sept. 8), Robert Morris (Sept. 9 at Penn) and the Quakers (Sept. 9) while at the tournament. Navy’s non-league slate will conclude with the Mids taking part in the Tussle in the Triad in North Carolina. Navy will play road matches at neighboring schools Elon (Sept. 15), High Point (Sept. 16) and UNCG (Sept. 16) during the event.

The Mids will briefly be back on The Yard for a pair of matches to open the Patriot League season –– Loyola on Sept. 23 and American on Sept. 26 –– then will take to the road for matches at Colgate on Sept. 29 and Holy Cross on Sept. 30.

A three-match homestand follows –– Lafayette, Oct. 6; Bucknell, Oct. 7; Lehigh, Oct. 10 –– with an ensuing three-match road swing ahead of the Mids –– Army West Point (Star Match), Oct. 14; American, Oct. 20; Loyola, Oct. 21. Navy closes October with home matches against Holy Cross on Oct. 27 and Colgate on Oct. 28.

The final two weeks of the regular season begins with the Mids back on the road for a trio of matches at Bucknell (Nov. 3), Lafayette (Nov. 4) and Lehigh (Nov. 7). Navy will conclude its regular season by playing host to Army West Point on Nov. 12.

The top-four teams in the final regular season standings will advance to the Patriot League Tournament. The No. 1 seed in the event will play host to both semifinal matches on Nov. 18 and the championship match on Nov. 19.

There is no admission charge to attend any Navy home volleyball match. The Kristen Dickmann Invitational and the Navy-Air Force match are currently scheduled to be played in Alumni Hall (subject to change), with the remainder of the home slate taking place in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

The team’s first day of practice is August 8.
