Owen to Captain Navy Volleyball Team
Aug. 7, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Senior outside hitter Kelsey Owen (Canfield, Ohio) will serve as the captain of the Navy volleyball team during the program's upcoming 2012 campaign. Head coach Larry Bock announced Owen's selection Tuesday, which is one day prior to the squad's opening practice of the season.
"We talk a lot about energy and Kelsey is the biggest power source on the squad," said Bock. "To her teammates and coaches she is a consistently positive life-force who simply never has a bad day. Kelsey personifies everything we all look for in a leader; she is about strong values, is a true connector and has that rare ability to make others feel good about them. Our team is in very good hands this year."
Owen appeared in all but one of Navy's Patriot League matches during the 2011 season and took to the court in 24 of the team's 29 matches played over the course of the full year. She dropped in 18 service aces last season, a tally that ranks second on the squad among returning players.
Off the court, the English major has earned placement onto the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her three completed seasons and has been named to the USNA Superintendent's List three times.
Navy's opening matches of the 2012 season will take place August 24-25 when the Midshipmen play host to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational in Alumni Hall.
