CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Navy women's volleyball team was tabbed to place fifth in the Patriot League during the upcoming 2013 season. This prediction came by way of the league's pre-season poll of coaches and sports information contacts for the sport that was announced Wednesday.

The Mids, who placed fifth in the league during the 2012 campaign, tallied 76 votes to earn their position in the poll. Navy's tally was just two points shy of the fourth-place finish by Lehigh in the tabulation.

Headlining the poll was American with 119 total points and eight first-place nods. The Eagles finished seven points ahead of second-place Army (112) and eight points in front of Colgate (111). The Black Knights and the Raiders split the remaining 10 first-place votes.

Loyola, which is entering its first season in the league this fall, garnered 52 points to place sixth in the voting. The Greyhounds edged Bucknell for its spot by just two points. The remainder of the results saw Holy Cross total 28 points to place eighth and Lafayette receiving 22 votes to place ninth.

The season-ending Patriot League Tournament will once again include just the top-four teams in the final regular season standings.

In addition to voting for the pre-season poll, ballots also were cast toward a pre-season all-league team. Earning one of the seven spots on this squad was Navy senior team captain Erin Fortner (Villa Hills, Ky.), who garnered First-Team All-Patriot League accolades at the end of the 2012 season.

Joining her on the pre-season team were Army's Margaux Jaux and Mary Vaccaro, Colgate's Kaylee Fifer and Lindsay Young, and the Lehigh tandem of Rachel Charles and Amanda Clark.

Jaux was selected as the pre-season player of the year.

No players from American were selected for the team due to the program not nominating any players for it.
