Sylakowski Earns League Volleyball Honor

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy middle hitter Katie Sylakowski (Fr., Escondido, Calif.) garnered Patriot League Rookie-of-the-Week honors for the sport of volleyball on Monday for her efforts in helping the Mids win a pair of matches last weekend. Navy dropped the first two sets in each of its matches against Lehigh and Lafayette last week, but rallied to win both contests in five sets.
Sylakowski began the week by tying a career high with 13 kills while hitting .545 and contributing four blocks during Navy's victory over Lehigh. She would tally nine kills and one attack error on 14 attempts (.643) over the last three sets against the Mountain Hawks. Additionally in the match, Sylakowski dropped in back-to-back aces with the score tied at 23-23 to close out the third set.
The following afternoon, Sylakowski notched 12 kills, hit .478 and recorded a match-high four service aces against Lafayette. She would post nine kills without an attack error on 16 swings (.600) and tally three service aces during sets three through five.
Sylakowski would total 25 kills, hit .511 and accrue seven aces on the weekend. She tallied 18 kills and just one attack error on 29 attempts (.621) in the final three sets of the two matches.
Navy, which is tied with Army for second place in the Patriot League standings with a 3-1 record, will play Friday night at American in a 7 p.m. match.
