Navy Loses Marathon Volleyball Match
Jana Milin's 29 kills helped spark Maryland-Eastern Shore to a five-game victory over Navy, Tuesday night in Princess Anne, Md. The Hawks defeated the Midshipmen, 27-30, 30-22, 30-22, 27-30, 15-11, in the nearly two and a half-hour match. "Milin did everything right tonight," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "We just couldn't stop her." Milin entered the match averaging over five kills a game for the Hawks, who improved to 16-13 on the season. The Midshipmen, who fell to 13-12 on the year, were led by 19 kills from Kristin Davidson (Sr., Lexington Park, Md.) and 17 from Ashley Van Hartesvelt (So., Breckenridge, Colo.). Erica McElroy (Sr., Henderson, Nev.), recorded her third-straight double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Navy will return to Patriot League action this weekend with the Midshipmen play host to Bucknell Friday and Colgate Saturday at Macdonough Hall. The Mids enter the weekend with a two-match lead over Army and Holy Cross for the fourth and final spot in the league playoffs. "We need to be ready to play Friday night," said Schwob. "Tonight was disappointing, but we have to put it behind us and focus again on this weekend and what we need to accomplish to make the playoffs."
