Fortner Earns Academic Honor

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy volleyball team captain Erin Fortner (Sr., Villa Hills, Ky.) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II First Team for her sport by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The lone Patriot League player to earn a first-team nod, she now will be placed onto the national ballot that will select the Academic All-America teams.
To be eligible for the district ballot, student-athletes must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, be at a minimum a sophomore academically, as well as be either a starter or key reserve on their respective team. CoSIDA's District II consists of Division I schools located in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Fortner has posted a 3.72 cumulative grade-point average at Navy as an honors oceanography major. She has garnered academic honors from the USNA in each of her six completed semesters and is a two-time member of the Patriot League All-Academic Team for volleyball.
On the court, Fortner leads Navy and ranks second in the Patriot League with a 3.55 kills-per-set average on the season and with a mark of 3.80 kills per set in league matches. She has recorded 10 or more kills in 18 of Navy's 25 matches this season, snared 10 or more digs in eight matches and tallied a double-double six times.
Fortner also leads all Navy hitters with a 2.60 digs-per-set average on the year, is tied for second on the squad in aces (0.24 saps) and is tied for third on the team in blocks (0.51 bps).
