CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy volleyball player Erin Fortner (Jr., Villa Hills, Ky.) garnered her second post-season honor on Tuesday as she was named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team for the sport.
The right-side hitter previously earned first-team all-league laurels. Fortner and Army’s Mary Vaccaro, who was tabbed as the league’s scholar-athlete of the year, were the lone players to receive both all-league and all-academic team nods.
It is the second consecutive season in which Fortner has been named to the league’s all-academic squad. Nominees for the team needed to be a starter or key reserve on the team, be at least a sophomore at their respective school and post an overall grade-point average of at least 3.20.
Fortner is an honors oceanography major with a 3.58 GPA. She has earned Superintendent’s List accolades from the U.S. Naval Academy in three of her four completed semesters and has been named to the Commandant’s List in all four terms.
On the volleyball court, Fortner led Navy and ranked second in the Patriot League with a 3.36 kills-per-set average. She knocked down 10 or more kills in 13 of the 14 league matches and in 19 of her 25 matches for the full season. Fortner also snared 10 or more digs three times and ranked third on the team among six rotation players in digs per set.
