Navy's Season Ends with Loss
Links associated with this release: ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Nov. 14) -- The Navy volleyball team saw its 2000 season come to a close Tuesday night at Macdonough Hall with a four-game loss to Morgan State. The Bears defeated the Midshipmen, 13-15, 15-11, 15-6, 15-9. After surviving a late rally by the Bears in game one, Navy held a slim 9-7 lead in game two before MSU scored six-straight points to lead 13-9 and win, 15-11. Morgan State's serving controlled games three and four, with the Bears totaling 12 of their 18 service aces in the final two games. Navy's Erin Musser (Sr., Industry, Pa.) led all players with 19 kills in the match. Erica McElroy (So., Henderson, Nev.) led Navy's defense with 14 digs, with Jessica VanNorman (So., Oakland, Calif.) totaling 10 digs and 40 assists. Morgan State was led offensively by Yolanda McGirt (So., San Diego, Calif.) with 17 kills, Java Johnson (So., Fresno, Calif.) with 16 and Dorothy Buford (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) with 15. Johnson also totaled 12 digs and four aces on the night. Navy ends its season with a 14-18 record, while Morgan State improves to 23-15 on the year.
